Wingbits is a Swedish aviation-technology company that operates a community-based ADS-B flight-tracking network and develops tools for analysing aviation data. Contributors host small receiver stations that collect aircraft signals and, in return, receive credits that can be converted into benefits such as airline miles, airport lounge access, or cryptocurrency.[1] The company has also developed artificial-intelligence tools that let users query and analyse the flight data its network collects.[2]

History

Wingbits was founded in 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden, by Alex Lungu and Robin Wingårdh, who had previously worked at the payments company Klarna and met during the Antler startup-accelerator residency in Stockholm.[3][4] The founders have said the concept was inspired by discussion of the sale of the flight-tracking service ADS-B Exchange, noting that hobbyist contributors generated valuable data without sharing in the resulting revenue.[3]

In September 2024 the company raised a seed round reported at approximately US$3.5 million (about €3.1 million), led by Borderless Capital and Tribe Capital with participation from Antler.[5][6] In January 2025 Wingbits raised a further US$5.6 million in a round led by Borderless Capital and Bullish Capital, bringing total funding to about US$9.2 million.[7][8]

Technology and network

Wingbits stations are ADS-B receivers that detect signals broadcast by nearby aircraft and forward the data to the company's network, where it is aggregated into flight-tracking data.[6] The company has stated that its hardware uses cryptographically signed, location-verified data intended to reduce spoofed or inaccurate reports.[7] Coverage and station figures reported in press coverage have grown over the network's first years of operation.[8]

Products and partnerships

In September 2025, Korean Air announced a research-cooperation agreement with Wingbits to provide real-time ADS-B flight-tracking data to the airline's research-and-development centre, supporting work on its in-house air-traffic-control and routing system (ACROSS) and on advanced air mobility research.[9][10]

In May 2026, Wingbits launched an artificial-intelligence-based agent that allows users to search and analyse its flight-tracking data using natural-language queries, reported by aviation trade publication Aviation International News.[2] Swedish business daily Dagens Industri has also covered the company's reward-based tracking model.[11]

WINGS token

On 22 April 2026, Wingbits conducted a token generation event for its WINGS token on the Solana blockchain, as part of a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) model in which contributors are rewarded for sharing flight data.[7] The token was listed on the Kraken exchange and on the decentralized exchanges Orca and Raydium.[12]
