Works in Progress is an english language magazine focused on science, technology, economics, public policy, and other topics related to human progress. The publication was founded in 2020 by Sam Bowman, Saloni Dattani, Ben Southwood, and Nich Whitaker.[1][2]

The magazine publishes long-form essays and reporting on subjects including economic growth, scientific research, cities, energy, transport, and history.

One of their most popular articles is "The housing theory of everything",[1] which is about how every issue in the west, such as slow growth, increasing inequality, falling fertility rates, obesity and climate change are all caused by a shortage of housing.[3][4]

History

Works in Progress was launched in 2020 as an online magazine dedicated to "new and underrated ideas to improve the world".[5]

In 2022, Works in Progress was acquired by Stripe.[6]
