Benjamin was first elected to the National Assembly in the 2007 election with 42% of the vote. Parti Québécois (PQ) incumbent Alexandre Bourdeau finished second with 35% of the vote. He took office on April 12, 2007[1] and became the Official Opposition's Shadow Minister for Culture and Communications on April 19, 2007.[2]
Before joining the ADQ and CAQ, Benjamin supported the PQ.[3]
In the 2012 election, he ran unsuccessfully for the CAQ in Berthier.
