Maldivian (airline)
Maldivian is the airline division of Island Aviation Services and is based in Malé, in the Maldives. It is the flag carrier airline of the Maldives. It operates international flights in addition to inter-island services. Its main base is Velana International Airport.[1] HistoryOn 23 April 2009, the Government under a Presidential decree incorporated Island Aviation Services Limited as a limited liability company, one hundred percent owned by the Government of Maldives. The airline began operations with three aircraft; a Bombardier Dash 8 Q200; and 2 Dornier 228s and served only domestic airports within the Maldives. The airline commenced its international flights on 26 January 2008 with scheduled flights to Thiruvananthapuram, India. On 25 August 2008, the airline division of Island Aviation Services was rebranded as Maldivian. In 2022 Maldivian Airlines started using new generation ATR 42/72 aircraft in its fleet, replacing its Dash-8 aircraft. On 6th January 2025, Maldivian introduced its first widebody aircraft since 2018, the Airbus A330-200, to its fleet and promises a second aircraft delivery in October. The airline is also seeking destinations in Europe, Africa, Asia and China. The inaugural flight is to Chengdu.[2] Flight Q27100, a Viking Air De Havilland DHC-6-200 with the registration 8Q-IAG, suffered an accident during three failed take-off attempts at Nature’s Paradise Island at 0926 hours on 16 November 2017. The aircraft had 12 passengers and three crew members destined to Velana International Airport. FleetRecent developments and future plansNew airline was established in April 2000. The new airline named island aviation services. The airline operating two dorneir Dornier 228 and one De Havilland Canada Dash 8-200 from Air Maldives. After four years operation island aviation services ordered one De Havilland Canada Dash 8-200 and delivered in 2006. Late 2006 island aviation services ordered two De Havilland Canada Dash 8-300 delivered until 2008. As re-branded to Maldivian government Headed over Maldivian as flag carrier of Maldives. On 2010 and 2011 two De Havilland Canada Dash 8-300 and one Airbus A320-200 was ordered.Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft delivered in 2012 to 2013 and Airbus A320-200 delivered in late 2012. In 2014 Maldivian introduced seaplane operation with de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 300aircraft ordered Twelve more aircraft.On mid of 2014 Maldivian ordered five more De Havilland Canada Dash 8-300 . Late 2014 Maldivian ordered Airbus A321-200 delivered in 2015. On 2017 Maldivian delivered final seaplane. In 2018 Maldivian delivered final De Havilland Canada Dash 8-300. As 2020 one De Havilland Canada Dash 8-300 was partially Scrapped the aircraft operated until 2018. On 2022 Maldivian seeks newer generation ATR 42/72 family aircraft to replace Bombardier Dash 8 family aircraft. On mid 2022 ordered one ATR 42-600 and two ATR 72-600. In 2023 one more ATR 42-600 ordered and delivered in may 2024 .In march 2024 Maldivian introduced medevac two aircraft one de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 300 and one De Havilland Canada Dash 8-200. In August 2024 five more ATR 42-600 was ordered until 2026 Maldivian deliver total ten aircraft. In July 2024 Maldivian announced order one Airbus A330-200. As 6th January 2025 Maldivian introduced first wide-body aircraft Airbus A330-200 and promises second aircraft in October. Historic fleet
LiveryThe first livery used by the airline (as Island Aviation) featured a wave pattern along the bottom of the fuselage along with two dolphins and two tuna fish. The logo was placed in the center of the tail. Along with the re-branding of Maldivian, a new livery was introduced. The new livery saw the removal of the wave pattern to a plain white fuselage, and the addition of a blue wave, with one dolphin jumping out of the water on the tail of the aircraft. LoungesMaldivian operates three lounges in the Maldives: Moonimaa lounge at Malé and Kashimaa lounges at both Hanimaadhoo and Dharavandhoo airports.[15][16] References
