Mitchell Bates (born 20 February 2004) is a Welsh footballer who plays as a midfielder for League of Ireland Premier Division club Galway United.
Career
Swansea City
Previously on the books with the Swans as a youth, Bates returned to captain the U21 side after stints at West End and Briton Ferry and led his side to finish runners up in the 2023–24 Welsh League Cup.[2][3] In 2024 he won the U21 Player of the Year. Bates remained at Swansea until being released in July 2026.[4]
Truro City loan
In January 2025 joined Truro City on loan, which concluded at the end of the season.[5][6]
Briton Ferry loan
Bates returned to Briton Ferry Llansawel on a loan for the 25/26 season.[7]
Galway United
On 31 July 2026, Bates signed an undisclosed-length contract with League of Ireland Premier Division club Galway United on a free transfer.[8][9]
Personal Life
Bates previously held a full-time engineering job. [10] His brothers, Luis and Morgan are also footballers.
