Omari 'The Banger' Jones ( oh-MAR -ee ; born November 7, 2002)[ 1] [ 2] is an American boxer .[ 3] [ 4] He competed at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships , winning the silver medal in the welterweight division.[ 5] Omari competed for the United States in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, winning the bronze metal in the 71 kg Welterweight division .[ 6]
Background
Omari Jones is from Orlando, FL. He grew up practicing multiple martial arts; starting with karate lessons at age 4, followed by boxing at age 8.[ 7] Coached by his father, Karl Jones, Omari continues to train in Florida. He is currently a student at Valencia College in Orlando.[ 8]
