Orbit Baby is an American baby product company known for manufacturing travel systems and its patented SmartHub rotational interface.[1][2]The SmartHub allows a single stroller chassis to accept interchangeable seating configurations and to rotate each a full 360 degrees. It was founded by Bryan White and Joseph Hei in 2004 and is headquartered in Ventura, California.[3][4][5][2]
History
Orbit Baby was founded by Bryan White and Joseph Hei, who met as undergraduates at Stanford University and worked together at the Palo Alto-based design company Ideo.[3][4][5][6] Motivated by their personal experiences as new fathers, particularly the physical strain of maneuvering traditional infant car seats, they set out to rethink baby transportation as a single modular system organized around ease of use. The company was initially based in Newark, California.[4][7] The founders developed their first product designs with the help of industrial designer Chris Loew.[2]
The founders' central idea was the SmartHub, a docking ring that lets a seat rotate 360 degrees into locked positions and move between a car base and a stroller frame as a single unit. Before its commercial launch, the design was named one of 2005's "most intriguing products" by the design magazine I.D.[8]
Orbit Baby launched its first product line in September 2006.[4] In the same year, the company’s products were featured in episodes of the television shows The Office and The L Word.[4]
In 2007, Orbit Baby released eco-friendly versions of its bassinet/pram products.[9]
Baby products company ErgoBaby acquired Orbit Baby in 2011[10], in a transaction reported at $17.5 million.
Orbit Baby launched the G3 travel system in 2014.[11]

In 2015, Orbit Baby introduced the Porter Collection, a luxury stroller collection with designs inspired by the Gilded Age.[1]
ErgoBaby sold Orbit Baby to the South Korean company Safian Group in 2016,[5][12] which previously distributed Orbit Baby products in Asia.
In 2019, Orbit Baby eventually merged with an investment, branding, and distribution company led by Braden Jones to form Orbit Global.[5][12] The company then refreshed its product line with the G5 system.
Products
Orbit Baby is known for manufacturing the Orbit Baby Travel System,[13][14][15] the G5 stroller,[16][17][18] X5 Jogger, M+ Stroller, and combined configurations marketed as the Stroll, Sleep & Ride travel system,[5] and the Orbit Baby infant car seat.[19][20]Additional components include the Helix+ attachment, which converts a single stroller to a double, and the Sidekick, a skateboard-like attachment that attaches to the G5 Stroller to allow toddlers and older children to ride along. Engineering features described by the company include a QuadShock suspension system and a StrongArm car-seat base installation mechanism.
Orbit Baby's product line centers on the SmartHub docking platform, which provides cross-compatibility across the brand's stroller, car seats, and bassinets. A docked seat can be oriented rear-facing or forward-facing and reclined, and the carrier can move a child between a vehicle base and the stroller frame without unbuckling. [1] The company holds approximately a dozen patents covering its modular system and related mechanisms.
In 2026, the company introduced the M+ Stroller, a compact model designed to fold to meet airline cabin-baggage dimensions while retaining full SmartHub travel-system functionality.[21]
Reception and recognition
Orbit Baby occupies the premium segment of the baby-products market and is known for its modular design and 360-degree rotating seat. The brand has drawn coverage in design, lifestyle, and parenting media gained visibility through celebrity use; reporting in 2013, for instance, noted Kim Kardashian's use of an Orbit stroller. In 2025, consumer and entertainment coverage also linked the actress Millie Bobby Brown to an Orbit Baby travel system.[22]
