Outcomes First Group

Outcomes First Group is an English company based in Bolton[1] which provides care for about 750 young people and adults with autism, complex and Social Emotional and Mental Health needs.

The organisation owns and operates over 90 schools[2], educating over 6,500 pupils[3].

The chief executive officer of Outcomes First Group is David Leatherbarrow[4]

The group comprises:

  • Acorn Education and Care: Acorn Education and Care is a provider of specialist education and residential care within Outcomes First Group.[5]
  • Options Autism: Options Autism is a provider of care and education for children, young people and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties.[6]

History

  • Outcomes First Group previously operated adult residential care services. In 2015, this arm of the business was sold to Achieve Together.
  • In May 2022, the Care Quality Commission rated Options Malvern View as inadequate in the safe and well-led categories and placed the service in special measures. The service was later included in the sale of the group’s adult residential care operations.[7]
  • Hillcrest Shifnal School received an Ofsted warning notice in 2017.[8] The school was subsequently renamed Lamledge School and was later rated Good by Ofsted[9].
  • Options Applegate House in Barton upon Humber. In the grounds is one of the last-remaining public air raid shelters, which was open to the public for Heritage Open Days 2018. The organisation created a wartime garden. Residents will be running stalls during the Open Days, selling home-grown produce such as carrots, beans and courgettes and handing out ration books to visitors.[10]
  • Options Higford School in Shifnal which has been awarded ‘Autism Accreditation’ status by the National Autistic Society.[11]
