Paul King (Mungo Jerry)
Paul Malcolm King (born 9 January 1948, Dagenham, Essex, England), is an English musician who was a member of Mungo Jerry between 1970 and 1972. He contributed occasional lead vocals, and played acoustic guitar (6- and 12-string), banjo,[1] harmonica, kazoo and jug. King was in Mungo Jerry from 1970 to 1972, performing on both of their number one UK hits "In the Summertime" and "Baby Jump". After leaving the band in 1972, he and the group's keyboard player Colin Earl formed the King Earl Boogie Band with guitarist Dave Lambert, bassist Russell John Brown and washboard player Joe Rush, who had been a part-time Mungo Jerry member. In August 2006, King was arrested and charged with two counts of assault after finding his long time girlfriend, Fiona Sweet, in bed with another man, Johnnie Pusey, a pub landlord.[2] King grew suspicious of their relationship and secretly followed the two, where he then discovered them committing Adultery. He denied the assault charges and was eventually found innocent.[3] King underwent heart surgery in January 2024.[4] References
