Bendix attended Tufts University, graduating in 2008.[3][4] He took a course on sabermetrics at Tufts and his research project resulted in two offers for internships.[5] He joined the Rays as an intern in 2009.[5]
The Rays promoted Bendix to vice president in 2019,[6] and by 2020 his title was vice president of baseball development.[5] Bendix was named general manager of the Rays on December 16, 2021, succeeding Erik Neander, who had been promoted to president of baseball operations.[7]
On November 6, 2023, the Miami Marlins hired Bendix to be their president of baseball operations.[8]

Twenty-seven years ago, Bendix was a 12-year-old diehard fan of a Cleveland team that lost the 1997 World Series to the Marlins on an extra-inning walk-off single in Game 7. The Marlins sold off their best players immediately thereafter and lost 108 games the following year, a turn of events Bendix remembers vividly. More teardowns followed.
