Pinu Rahman is a Bangladeshi photographer, critic, and bank official.[1] He is particularly known for his contributions to the international photography arena and has been honored with multiple prestigious awards.[2][3]

Education and career

Pinu Rahman earned his master's degree in botany from the University of Dhaka. After completing his education, he has been working as an official at the state-owned Rupali Bank. Alongside his professional duties, Rahman has been actively involved in photography and photography criticism for a long time.[4] In recognition of his unique contributions to photography, he was nominated as an ambassador for the World Photography Olympiad in 2026.[5]

Awards and recognition

Rahman has received several notable awards at both national and international levels. In 2019, he won the 'Best of Nation-Bangladesh' award at the World Photographic Cup competition.[6] In 2021, he won the Curator's Choice award in Paris for his photograph based on child labor at the Px3 State of the World competition.[7][8]

In 2025, he won the gold medal in the 'Accent' category at the final round of the International Photography Olympiad held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, competing against 96 photographers from around the world. Following this achievement, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Dhaka accorded him a special reception.[5] On 17 March 2026, he received the 'National Award' at the Sony World Photography Awards for his photograph titled 'Threads of Life'.[2]

Exhibitions and media

His photographs have been featured or published in various leading global media outlets, such as The Daily Star, Independent, Dhaka Tribune, The Guardian, The Times, Deutsche Welle, and Al Jazeera.[9] His works have been exhibited at the Royal Photographic Society in the United Kingdom, the Etihad Museum in the United Arab Emirates, and the historic Somerset House in London.[1] In addition, his photograph was included in the official photo book of the Sony World Photography Awards.
