Retrotransposon Gag-like protein 8C is a protein that in humans is encoded by the RTL8C gene (previously FAM127A).[5][6][7][8] An alternative transcription of RTL8C can also produce a longer protein, called CAAX box protein 1.[9][10] RTL8C is part of a family of at least 11 genes that derive from LTR retrotransposons, but no longer function as retrotransposons.[10]
