The Resolute Party (RP) is a political party in Zambia.[1]

History

The Resolute Party was founded in December 2025.[2] In January 2026, they joined the Tonse Alliance.[3] They were speculated to stand a candidate in the 2026 Chawama by-election but didn't do so.[4] In May 2026, it was reported that Makebi Zulu would join the party.[5] This was amid a factional dispute with the Miles Sampa-led Patriotic Front (PF).[6] Zulu urged his supporters to join the party.[7] The Patriotic Front in Livingstone endorsed Zulu as its preferred presidential candidate alongside the Resolute Party.[8] Zulu did not stand as a presidential candidate.[9] He endorsed Brian Mundubile for President of Zambia.[10]

The Resolute Party is identified as an opposition party.[11] They supported the presidential campaign of Mundubile but there was internal conflict.[12] The political alliance between the Resolute Party and the Tonse Alliance was controversial.[13] On 4 August 2026, a leadership crisis erupted after its interim president and Secretary General Alex Katepu and party president Martin Phiri expelled each other within 48 hours.[14]

In the 2026 Zambian general election, the party won 6 seats in the National Assembly.[15]

Policies

The party advocates for public control of natural resources.[2]
