S. K. M. Maeilanandhan
S. K. M. Maeilanandhan, is an Indian industrialist from Erode, Tamil Nadu. He is the founder of S. K. M. group of companies. In 2013, he was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award by the Government of India for his contributions to social service. BiographyMaeilanandhan was born as Saminathapuram Krisnasamy Mayilsamy in 1945 in Modakurichi near Erode in the erstwhile Coimbatore district of Madras Presidency (now in Erode district, Tamil Nadu).[1] He was born in a Kongu Vellalar agricultural family.[2] He chose not to pursue agriculture and opened a small general store at Erode in 1966. Over the years, it grew into a ₹ 50 billion business conglomerate involved in diverse activities including poultry farming, manufacture of Ayurveda and Siddha medicines, fertilizers and animal feeds.[3] The conglomerate includes the following constituent entities: SKM Egg Products,[4][5] SKM Animal Feeds and Foods,[6] SKM Siddha and Ayurvedic Medicines[1][7] and SKM Health and Mind Welfare Charity Trust.[1] Maeilanandhan serves as the President of the World Community Service Centre (WCSC), a non profit spiritual organization founded by Vethathiri Maharishi involved in the education of yoga and meditation techniques.[8] The organization conducts welfare programmes covering various village panchayats across India.[9] The charitable trust he founded in 1989 has adopted multiple villages to support them with basic infrastructure.[3][9] In 2013, he was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award by the Government of India for his contributions to social service.[10] References
