plan to begin major edits
Hi, I'm brand new to Wikipedia. I'm a graduate student studying auditory perception, and I think I could help improve this page with some pretty major edits & restructuring. I wanted to post on the talk page in case anybody wanders by and has tips for a newbie. Some plans:
- I think auditory scene analysis is currently more thought of "the process by which the human auditory system organizes sound into perceptually meaningful elements" (taken from the Wikipedia page), rather than specifically referring to Bregman's model in particular. I'll try to make that more clear, and also add some animations/sound demos to explicate this idea.
- The focus on Bregman is important and inevitable, but there is a lot of work by others as well as newer work in this field that I will include.
- The "experimental basis" section is vague and without citations. I think a better way to organize this page might be by relevant principles scientists have hypothesized, incorporating relevant experimental evidence into each section.
- Similar to the field of visual perception, so-called auditory 'illusions' are used to test and demonstrate ideas in auditory perception. There are many illusions associated with auditory scene analysis that could be included.
- Needs a section on relevant work in computational auditory scene analysis -- research on ASA is a very good example of the strong intellectual influences between AI and cognitive science.
