The calcium forms a stronger complex then magnesium, so they displace the Mg ions from the EDTA complex. The Mg ions react with an indicator to change the colour of the solution. When the calcium ions have all be taken into EDTA, any extra EDTA will displace the Mg ions from the indicator, thus removing the colour and completing the titration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.222.127.240 (talk) 04:11, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
