Normed algebras
Speaking as a Banach algebraist i think isn't quite true that Banach algebras sometimes go by the name normed algebras. A normed algebra in this setting would not require completeness. I probably ought to clear some of this up at some point. hmmm A Geek Tragedy 16:42, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Split algebras
When this article was short in 2013 some information on the split composition algebras was added. Since then the top of the article has been supplemented with material that does not acknowledge these structures as composition algebras. A fair presentation of the subject would not shunt these important algebras to the very bottom of the article. — Rgdboer (talk) 21:40, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
Remedy has been taken per WP:BOLD. Anyone for discussion ? — Rgdboer (talk) 23:18, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
The following reference states "theorems" which are falsified by the existence of the split composition algebras.
- Koecher, Max; Remmert, Reinhold (1990). "10. Composition Algebras. Hurwitz's Theorem — Vector-Product Algebras". In Ebbinghaus, Heinz-Dieter (ed.). Numbers. Springer-Verlag. ISBN 0-387-97202-1.
In its favor is material on Gauss and composition of quadratic forms, but the false claims make the source unreliable for reference. — Rgdboer (talk) 23:38, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
N not a variable
@Rgdboer: if insist on Roman for “N”, then make it Roman consistently instead of reinstating mishmash. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 06:23, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
- Reverted since functions (here N) can be italic. — Rgdboer (talk) 02:14, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
