@Yae4:Hi! I am writing to explain my previous removal of some text, undid in Special:Diff/1066194903. By definition "degoogle is a grassroots campaign that has spawned as privacy advocates urge users to stop using Google products entirely". I do not think search engines other than Google search constitute practices of "degoogle" just because they are alternative search engines. There are hundreds of search engines as listed in List_of_search_engines with a least a bunch of them widely used (there would be countless sources reporting them). It cannot be a good idea to list them one by one in the article just because they are one of the alternative services to Google. In my opinion, in order to be included in "degoogle", there should be some sort of distinct characteristics for a search engine to distinguish itself from the others, such as DuckDuckGo. In short, even though these texts are sourced, their relation to the topic does not appear to be close enough to be worth mentioning as a part of degoogle practices. --虹易 (talk) 08:04, 17 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

It's about search engines and more. Using other than Google search is one part of "deGoogle", and the sources you deleted cover more than just search. First, the Interesting Engineering source you deleted specifically discusses "deGoogle" and "A Gizmodo journalist" experience, and connects it with Huawei activities more than just search. These (IE and Gizmodo) are two of the earliest four sources for this article, from 2019.[1] Second, the 2021 Huaweicentral source[2] follows up on Huawei activities and discusses several issues of Google versus Huawei, not only search. It does not say "deGoogle" but it does say, "... another way to fill the hole produced by the absence of Google Applications including Google Assistant, Google Search, Play Store, and more." which is close enough IMO, and "because of Huawei’s popularity among consumers." it is part of the grassroots. The third source you deleted, Dealstreetasia[3] also discusses more than just search. So, IMO, you mis-characterized what the sources you deleted say. Therefore, deleting them was improper, IMO.
