@Noorullah21 the Brill source makes the statement based on Ferishta, specifically this is the source it cites: Firishta, Muhammad Kasim Ghulam, Ta’rikh-i Firishta or Gulshan-i Ibrahimi, Bombay 1917, Eng. tr. J. Briggs, Calcutta 1910.

Other sources make it clear, e.g see Ferishta tells that he was an Afghan chieftain and belonged to the Lodi family. This statement has been questioned by many scholars like Raverty, Hodivala, Nāzim, Sayyid Sulaiman Nadvi and others.^[1] See also op of other scholars e.g Firishta’s Lodi (or Afghan) is an obvious error for Lawi.^[2] and Ferishta has erroneously written Lodi and the error has been repeated by Sir W. Haig.^[3]
