I honestly feel like "Squamates that are cladistically considered lizards but traditionally not considered lizards" is better than "Squamates that are not considered lizards (except cladistically)"
You know what? I'm gonna change "Squamates that are not considered lizards (except cladistically)" to "Squamates that are cladistically considered lizards but traditionally not considered lizards", I honestly feel like "Squamates that are cladistically considered lizards but traditionally not considered lizards" is better than "Squamates that are not considered lizards (except cladistically)", if you have anything to say, please let me know Cantthinkofanyusername (talk) 21:41, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- Lizards is a vernacular name for most of the squamates with legs. Lizards are not paraphyletic. A vernacular name is neither monophyletic or paraphyletic, which are properties applied to taxa. Thus a taxon described as containing lizards to the exclusion of snakes (i.e. Lacertilia/Sauria) is paraphyletic. "Squamates that are cladistically considered lizards" makes no sense. A taxon doesn't take on a vernacular name for part of its contents.
- Also these header captions are becoming ridiculously long. I propose a simple "Groups excluded" with "(but included in cladistical analysis)" as a subheader. — Jts1882 | talk 08:03, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
- Okay, I understand Cantthinkofanyusername (talk) 19:34, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
- Also, lizards may not be paraphyletic, but lizards are a vernacular name used to describe a paraphyletic group Cantthinkofanyusername (talk) 19:37, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, that would be unnecessarily longer. Also, a vernacular term can be absolutely paraphyletic, as also mentioned by scientific works. But it could arguably be the better choice to use the paraphyletic group template differently for some vernacular names sometimes. Jako96 (talk) 20:42, 10 August 2026 (UTC)

Change "Lizards make use of a variety of antipredator adaptations, including venom, camouflage, reflex bleeding, and the ability to sacrifice and regrow their tails." to "Lizards make use of a variety of antipredator adaptations, including venom, camouflage, armor, reflex bleeding, and the ability to sacrifice and regrow their tails." Near the top it states, " Lizards make use of a variety of antipredator adaptations, including venom, camouflage, reflex bleeding, and the ability to sacrifice and regrow their tails." I believe this line should be changed to include armor. Armor is present in Cordylid lizards and Varanid lizards. Cordylid lizards often have spines made from modified scales, while monitor lizards have subdermal osteoderms. Both are adaptations specifically against predation. ~2026-31250-93 (talk) 00:09, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
Not done for now: This claim as a whole is uncited. Can you provide a reliable source to substantiate it? thunkii (talk) 03:49, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
