Vanity entry?

Who is 'Paige "Pirate" Davis, skater, sexy'? No article on Wikipedia (not even a stub) and nothing on Google. Laura Kahili does show up on Google, but is arguably not significant enough for Wikipedia. Pseudomonas 14:08, 2 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Most Common Birthday in the US

According to the Birthday article, October 5 is the most common birthday in the United States. Might this be worth mentioning in the October 5 article? If so, where? Brent 15:41, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I suggest putting death date immediately after name

In Wikipedia 'On this day' pages, in the birthdays section, the death date is always put at the end of the entry line, but at times this can cause confusion. In cases such as "1717 Marie-Anne de Mailly-Nesle duchess de ChâteaurouxFrench mistress of King Louis XV of France (d. 1744)" it looks like Louis died in 1744, not Marie-Anne. To obviate this ambiguity, I suggest that in all entries the death year appear immediately after the person's name, eg "1717 Marie-Anne de Mailly-Nesle duchess de Châteauroux (d. 1744), French mistress of King Louis XV of France". It's simply a matter of correct grammar. Alpheus 03:55, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The project page would probably be the best place to ask about the overall formatting of these pages. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 04:02, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dali Lama

According to other sites, including the one for the History Channel, the Dali Lama recieved the Nobel Peace Prize on October 5th 1989, why hasn't anyone added this?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.80.186.150 (talk) 05:10, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Halloween?

Can anyone tell me why this article lists October 5th as Halloween? Is it the original date? Halloween's entry doesn't mention anything. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 163.178.17.124 (talk) 14:55, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea why that was in there, and don't think Oct. 5th has anything to do with its history. And if it does, then an unexplained, unsourced "Halloween" certainly isn't going to cut it. So...removed. Cosmic Latte (talk) 15:01, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mercedes Sosa

Mercedes Sosa's death was added to both October 4th and October 5th pages. Since her Wikipedia page states her death was on the 4th, I have deleted her entry on the 5th. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.157.95.228 (talk) 18:22, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Monty Python's first BBC Air date

On this day, the BBC aired the first episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus (https://www.bbc.com/historyofthebbc/anniversaries/october/monty-pythons-flying-circus) I had made an edit to DoY reflecting this, and it was reverted by Toddst1 arguing that the first episode of any TV show does not meet DoY standards.

I believe that the cultural significance of Monty Python can not be understated. A Google summary (https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=1a1919bfb81f2e47&sxsrf=ANbL-n5E542g38PnGsZ2rl-O6yfhgOrmzw%3A1780275135846&q=Cultural+significance+of+monty+python+summary&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiuhszY6eSUAxXWDjQIHU_yOEAQ1QJ6BAg4EAE&biw=1875&bih=877&dpr=1) cites numerous influences, including inclusion in academic and legal papers, cultural memory, non-linear comedic shows, cold opening, and the like. BBC America cites 8 different shows and stars inspired by MP, including the Simpsons, SNL, Sacha Baron Cohen, and more. This summary lists more: https://www.google.com/search?q=which+comedians+say+they+were+influenced+by+monty+python&sca_esv=1a1919bfb81f2e47&biw=1875&bih=877&sxsrf=ANbL-n4Ha4dTN8WMF8Dzl6QXVsFtQkG65Q%3A1780275162950&ei=2tccatHVOemf0PEPisfE0Qo&oq=which+comedians+say+they+were+influ&gs_lp=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_QKACAE&sclient=gws-wiz-serp

As such, I would like to include this first air date in DoY. I welcome your feedback.

Thanks - Rich
