PP page numbers
What does pp mean when referring to page numbers? Teachers always write something like "read pp 51-53," but I can't figure out why. It's only used for multiple page numbers, never "read pp 43," but that's all I've been able to figgure out.
- I was given to understand that in a few cases double-letters are used to indicate a plural of the abbreviation. Perhaps in this case to avoid confusion with ps, or p.s.? — RJH
- pp means paginae (latin: = pages), used for page numbers. Scriberius 11:19, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
- It's a common practice in referring to plurals of items like this to use double letters when the singular is represented by only one letter. Another example is ff for "folios following" (a folio has a number of different interpretations but one relates to the number marked on a page (as opposed to the actual page count - the physical page may be, say, 7, but the number marked on the page might be "2"). A single page following would be simply "f". Yet another example is "vv" for verses. AncientBrit 15:25, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Why didn't you guys go add pp., ff., and vv. to Wikipedia? ;) --Kjoonlee 07:52, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
PP Pastor Pastorum

- Apparently there is some confusion as to wether it means "Papa Pontifex" or "Pastor Pastorum". But "Papa Pontifex" certainly isn't "Latin for sheperd of sheperds" as it's stated in the article. What to do about this? --Thathánka Íyotake (talk) 12:05, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
'Naughty Terms' section deletion?
The 'Naughty Terms' section should be deleted. PP does not equate to penis... WinterSpw (talk) 00:55, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Product Placement
It also means the mentioned, but I dunno where to sort it within the stored stuff... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.175.65.32 (talk) 03:28, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Duplicate entry: per procurationem
"Procuration" is referenced twice, once in Office admin, once in others. Which one should be removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.145.197.13 (talk) 04:23, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
- I removed the first one. W. P. Uzer (talk) 07:29, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
Irrelevant entries
The last 4 entries in the "Other uses" section just list people and brands that have the initials PP. There's no indication that those people (or the brand) are commonly known as PP. The article can't just list all the people who have those initials. 2001:999:508:F998:3937:DE3D:F580:F864 (talk) 17:14, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
