Merger with Prompt engineering

@The Anome Pinging you as the last editor. This is very short. Prompt injection is also prompt engineering, just of a malicious sort. Agree to merge? —Alalch E. 12:39, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I think prompt injection is notable enough as its own topic. prompt injection - Google Scholar
Also the section on prompt injection on the Prompt engineering page has grown a lot.

Added section

Shouldn’t we add an image injection section? WikiGrower1 (talk) 21:27, 24 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Confusion regarding jailbreaking

This article seems to state all of:

  • Prompt injection is not jailbreaking
  • Prompt injection is a type of jailbreaking
  • Some prompt injection techniques are jailbreaking but others are not

The article then goes on to deal with prompt injection and jailbreaking without much/any distinction. I don't know anywhere near enough about the subject to fix this myself. Thryduulf (talk) 21:36, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Edit request: attribution for coinage of “prompt injection”

I have a personal connection to this attribution question, so I am not editing the article directly. I am requesting review by an uninvolved editor.

In the History section, the article currently says:

The term "prompt injection" was coined by Simon Willison in September 2022.

I propose replacing that sentence with:

The term "prompt injection" was used by the Twitter user @himbodhisattva in May 2022, and was independently used and popularized by Simon Willison in September 2022.[1]

Rationale: this keeps Willison's role in popularizing the term while reflecting Willison's later acknowledgement that @himbodhisattva used the phrase four months earlier. VarnishDelta742 (talk) 20:09, 12 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
