Talk:Relative difference

A section [listed below] is confusing to me. It may have the Before and After percentages reversed (if understanding should decrease by viewing). But there's more I don't understand, e.g. -0.4/0.55 [from where does the 0.55 arise?], and 0.72 [0.7272... => 0.73], so I don't want to try to repair it lest I lose the author's original intent.

[section in question:] Now let's look at a group of genderless Martians, before and after watching that TV show. The percentages of the group favorable to Earthlings are 

Before 35%
After  75%

The absolute difference is −0.4 or −40% (35% − 75%), e.g. absolute Martian favorability to Earthlings decreased 40% after watching the show. The relative difference (−0.4/0.55) can also be stated as a ratio (−0.72) or as a percentage (−72%), e.g. relative Martian favorability to Earthlings decreased 40% after watching the show. 155.247.96.199 (talk) 21:57, 23 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
