Background
This is a rejuvenated article on Senseis Library, important from a wiki perspective and from a Go perspective. It is still close to stub status, so I would appreciate more details being added. The format of a lot of the references probably needs improved too, I'm afraid I'm not very good at that.--ZincBelief 13:31, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Ian (at least I think that's your name), I have started a tidy up of the citation links for you.Weejack48 08:02, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Notability
There has been some 'discussion' on whether or not this is a notable wiki. Is Senseis Library notable as a wiki? It is at number 6 in the largest non media wiki chart. Every 'english language' Go Association has Senseis Library as a link in their website somewhere. They all rate it as a source of information. Many published Western Go Authors use Senseis Library in some shape or form. Go Servers use it, Professional Players use it, Go Software uses it, so called Rules Experts use it. I do not think this article is written as an advert, it is a bit stubby or listy, but it is not an advert. It sets out the information Senseis Library uses and a brief overview of it's history and authors. I don't really see what is wrong with the links used myself. Nobody else has complained previously, and I find it rather hasty that somebody pops along, deletes over half of them, and places a totally butchered article on prod deletion.--ZincBelief (talk) 10:43, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Agree. If the American Go Association is not a reliable source for notability in this context, what is? HermanHiddema (talk) 12:38, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, the notability template is back, but without comment here, sadly. Regarding notability, according to WP:WEB, the site is notable if "The content itself has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the site itself. ".
- Sensei's Library has been the subject of multiple articles in the American Go E-Journal, published by the AGA (American Go Association):
- short review by Philip Waldron, president of the Canadian Go Association: "...Sensei's Library may be the most extensive go resource on the web".
- review by Mindy McAdams: "Sensei's Library, which hopes some day to be the repository of all go knowledge, is a unique collection of information..."
- Review by the St. Louis Go Association: "Put simply, Sensei’s Library is one of the best resources for weiqi players."
- Sensei's library is also linked to from the BGA (British Go Association), who mention it as "There are many other web sites that are available in English and that provide Go resources. Most interesting of these are...[3 other websites]... and Sensei’s Library (wiki Go encyclopedia)."
- Additionally, it is one of only two BGA independent websites that is linked to directly from their front page
- The GoGoD Go encyclopedia, by well known go authors John Fairbairn and T Mark Hall, includes it as only one of their three external links (the others being the AGA and the BGA).
Sufficient? HermanHiddema (talk) 19:36, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- Looks pretty good to me. Some of those are lightweight links (one review is a just a few sentences), but I doubt you've had to dreg the depths for those refs. I say remove the template, and unless someone wants to AfD this page, let's all move on. --Gwern (contribs) 22:06 10 December 2008 (GMT)
Third Opinion: A third opinion was requested, however, it appears that the issue is in the process of being resolved and that there are now more than two editors involved. As such, I will just encourage you to continue in your effort to find reliable sources that establish the notability of the subject. Please feel free to re-list this discussion at WP:3O if needed. Thanks! (EhJJ)TALK 22:38, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
If the reputable Wolfram MathWorld page for Go references Sensei's Library, then I think Sensei's Library must be something. Also, try the Google query:
link:senseis.xmp.net site:en.wikipedia.org
and notice how many Go-related articles on English Wikipedia reference something Sensei's Library. --unkx80 (talk) 09:59, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
