That might seem obvious but the person that wrote the current first sentence does not understand. The current first sentence defines a smart device in terms of communication capability. A device can be smart without any communication capability. The definition should be in terms of the presence of intelligence, not communication. I confirm that the definition is far from being right and complete. There is a definition for common public devices containing some intelligence and there is another for industrial devices containing limited intelligence (when too complex or roughly computer like they are called "Computer Based Systems"). I will comme back on this page when I find reference commonly accepted. Moreover, there may be another domain with another definition. It's a marketing term: the devices aren't actually smart: smartness only applies to people (and some animals in limited unconscious to semiconscious sense, though can be significantly smart and better at some things than some people). It's impossible for a device to be smart because they don't have minds (like all living beings have). Most 'smart devices' are (personal) computers (PCs); see PC article says/said so-called 'smartphones' in true scientific/technical term are phone PCs, and similar watches are watch PCs, etc.--dchmelik (t|c) 14:55, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
