Re the first sentence: Wentworth's Thorough policy actually applied to Ireland, where he was the Lord Deputy, and not to England; that was more Laud's territory. He was certainly in favour of absolute monarchy in England, but he was more concerned with his Irish duties and with using the policy to establish centralised rule (reinforcing the monarchy's authority), root out corruption and personal interests, and weaken the power (and wealth) of the Catholics. Very poor quality discussion of the Thorough policy. This was the government of England during the Personal Rule. The key player is Strafford, I am unclear about what the significance of Arminianism is as there is no connection between this and the Wikipedia article on it.

I don't think it is appropriate to refer to Marxism. That is centuries later and there isn't any connection between the English civil war and Marxism. Divisions tended to be regional and religious based, certainly not classed based. Palfreman (talk) 17:44, 4 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
