I doubt this picture (featuring Nazi imagery) is representative of all anti-transgender sentiment. It seems extreme, and pushes a POV. I advocate for its removal, or replacement. Scientelensia (talk) 16:05, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

It is illustrative of the intimidation used against transgender people and shows that it originates, mostly, from the far-right. Far from pushing a POV it illustrates the topic accurately, almost perfectly even. I'm not sure what could be a better image than this. You might say it is "extreme" but this is an article about a form of extremism and the image reflects that. We can't use a picture of an individual known transphobe, for very obvious reasons, and that would be even less representative of the overall topic. What do you think the actual problem is? What do you think the POV is here? Do you have a suggestion for a better image? If you can find anything better then maybe we can use that as the lead image and move the current image down but we are not removing the current image from the article. --DanielRigal (talk) 16:33, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure I agree with your reasoning. Whilst Transphobia sometimes implies intimidation (a far-right tactic), most 'Transphobia' (i.e. general opposition against the concept of trans people) comes from the centre and centre-right. The article itself starts off with a moderate sentence which doesn't couple the sentiment with violent tendencies – 'Transphobia consists of negative attitudes, feelings, or actions towards transgender or transsexual people, or transness in general.' This is why a Transphobia article shouldn't be represented by such a picture. For the article on violence against trans people, it would certainly be more relevant and more representative for the lead. That said, I can suggest a better picture for the lead – the bus one which is already in the article, since that one doesn't give undue weight to N*zi imagery. Other images would include File:TERF sticker.jpg, Transphobia symbol.png, or Transphobic Graffito.jpg. Take your pick, I think all would do nicely. As a courtesy I've attached the images linked. I agree with DanielRigal that the current one is the best of these. Aside from being a compelling piece of urban photography, it is also the most straight-forward possible illustration of the concept. I don't see how it implies that all anti-transgender sentiment is necessarily extreme or far-right. That said, I don't think my great aunt would know what "pronouns" were or have an opinion about them, if not for the many right-wing and far-right movements internationally rallying around transphobia as their favorite wedge issue of the 2020s. –RoxySaunders 🏳️‍⚧️ (talk • stalk) 02:43, 31 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

It is indeed a compelling piece of urban photography. But by affording it leading position in article – the first visual item readers see – it intrinsically ties transphobia with extreme-right sentiment, including Nazism. This evidently isn't the intention, but it is something to fix for sure. Thanks for attaching the images! I believe any one of them is better as a leading image. I think this section should be rewritten. It downplays physical violence against trans people since it focuses on the very specific part of the source in which trans people in general are less likely to be victims of homicide while leaving out a lot of important context which is mentioned in the sources. The source itself says that the data is unreliable and homicides of trans people are very likely undercounted.

I think the part about the lower murder rates in general gives the impression that trans people are somewhat safer than the general population. That's why it should include some context about how unreliable the data is and that trans people are way more likely to be victim of a violent crime and therefore are more precautious.
