Usage

|text= text to mark as dubious.
|1=Talk section name – the first field should point to the section name on the talk page which contains the discussion.
- If the section name contains an equal sign, use the following syntax: {{Dubious|1=Does x = 5?}}.
- Other special characters used in section names (such as brackets, "[" and "]") may need to be escaped. For example, the markup:

{{Dubious span|K%5BX%5D is NOT integral|text=KX is clearly a whole number.}}

or, equivalently

{{Dubious span|text=K[X] is clearly a whole number.|1=K%5BX%5D is NOT integral}}

would be converted to:

{{Dubious span|K[X] is NOT integral|text=K[X] is clearly a whole number.}},

which is rendered as follows (note the URL link to discuss):

K[X] is clearly a whole number.^{[dubious – discuss]}.

For comparison, the unescaped version produces garbage:

K[X] is clearly a whole number.^{[dubious – [[Template talk:Dubious span#K[X] is NOT integral|discuss]]]}

|date= the month and year when the template was added. Example: |date=June 2026. This date will then be displayed in a tooltip when the reader moves their mouse over the superscripted word "dubious".
|reason= a (concise) reason that the text was marked as dubious. Example: |reason=The dates given imply that this person lived for 110 years in the 16th century.. This reason will then be displayed in a tooltip when the reader moves their mouse over the superscripted word "dubious".
