Template:Lay source/doc

This template is a wrapper template to provide standardized formatting for sources that describe scholarly research in a way that is more accessible to a general audience. This template should be bundled with a citation to that scholarly research. If the source described by this template is to be cited in an article, it would be better to use the proper cs1|2 template.

Usage

To use this template, specify one of the cs1|2 templates in |template=. Choose a cs1|2 template from the list below that is appropriate to the lay source: {{cite news}} for a newspaper article or other news source, {{cite magazine}} for a magazine article, etc. If |template= is empty or omitted, {{lay source}} defaults to {{cite web}}. This wrapper template supports all of the standard cs1|2 citation templates:

Supply the parameters and values necessary to properly cite the lay source. For example, an adaptation of the |lay-url= and |lay-source= parameters in this citation might be written this way:

{{lay source |template=cite news |url=https://www.abc.net.au/news/2005-04-11/blood-sucker-gets-up-womans-nose/1549312 |title=Blood-sucker gets up woman's nose |date=10 April 2005 |agency=Reuters |work=ABC News |location=Australia}}
Lay summary in: "Blood-sucker gets up woman's nose". ABC News. Australia. Reuters. 10 April 2005.

|ref= is suppressed and internally set to none to prevent sources wrapped in this template from being linked by {{sfn}} etc.

Most-commonly-used parameters in horizontal format
{{lay source |template=cite web |url= |title= |date= |agency= |work= }}
