Template talk:HTML lists

Needed work

Issues identified so far:

  • It's "user-hateful" to not link from the template names in the actual table (it's easy to miss the links in the skinny header, and this is basically just not how we do navboxes).
  • The table-based example at the bottom is broken (it's displaying something like "1. 2     4". This is probably because nested tables do not work inside templates (without substituting them and manually tweaking them).
  • Commonly needed entries are missing, the most obvious being {{plainlist}}, and {{hlist}} (mentioned in header, but not illustrated).
  • One of the entries is flat-out wrong; you cannot do {{flatlist| * item1 * item2 * ... }}, because the * markup only works at the start of a new line.
  • This is too huge to have uncollapsed (especially since fixing the flatlist entry will make it even taller).
  • Confusing to understand due to code and output having no separation.
  • Description (definition, association) lists, e.g. for glossaries, are missing.
  • Not linking to all the key guideline pages, etc.

I'm working on an overhaul.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  12:37, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I think I've resolved all of these. There are other layout possibilities, including putting output examples beside instead of under the code snippets, but this would both complicate markup and be unfriendly to mobile users.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  12:51, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this template so damn wide?

On mobile, this template stretches the page out ridiculously. Is it meant to be like this? There no wrap function we can use?--Ineffablebookkeeper (talk) ({{ping}} me!) 13:19, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
