This template is written in Canadian English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, centre, travelled, realize, analyze) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.
For the record I created this template for "big L" Liberal parties, that meaning parites which use the Liberal name. It's not an ideological template like the conservative one that's similar to this. Although I do support the create of a template for all of the left-wing parties in Canada as well. From British Columbia Liberal Party, "Previously affiliated with the Liberal Party of Canada, the British Columbia Liberal Party has been independent of its federal counterpart since the late 1980s." --PenaltyKillahJw2122:38, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-05-02T22:38:00.000Z","author":"Jw21","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Jw21-2009-05-02T22:38:00.000Z-Move_British_Columbia_to_\"No_representation\"","replies":["c-Essin-2009-05-05T09:45:00.000Z-Jw21-2009-05-02T22:38:00.000Z","c-Sima_Yi-2009-05-06T09:53:00.000Z-Jw21-2009-05-02T22:38:00.000Z"]}}-->
Either that (and the same for the similarly independent parties in Ontario, Alberta and Quebec) or maybe change the header to Liberal Parties of Canada? //Essin (talk) 09:45, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-05-05T09:45:00.000Z","author":"Essin","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Essin-2009-05-05T09:45:00.000Z-Jw21-2009-05-02T22:38:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
As previously stated, this template was created for parties running under the Liberal name. Their affiliation with the federal party isn't an issue at all. Sima Yi (talk) 09:53, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-05-06T09:53:00.000Z","author":"Sima Yi","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Sima_Yi-2009-05-06T09:53:00.000Z-Jw21-2009-05-02T22:38:00.000Z","replies":["c-Essin-2009-05-07T23:02:00.000Z-Sima_Yi-2009-05-06T09:53:00.000Z"]}}-->
Then the header is confusing - a reader who doesn't know how the provincial Liberals relate to the federal Liberals will think that they are all part of the same party. I don't know how to clarify the template without making it unnecessarily wordy, however. //Essin (talk) 23:02, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-05-07T23:02:00.000Z","author":"Essin","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Essin-2009-05-07T23:02:00.000Z-Sima_Yi-2009-05-06T09:53:00.000Z","replies":["c-Sima_Yi-2009-05-10T12:05:00.000Z-Essin-2009-05-07T23:02:00.000Z"]}}-->
That's a valid concern, but there's a key flaw in what you're proposing here. The provincial Liberal parties of Ontario, Alberta, Quebec (and maybe others) aren't officially affiliated with the federal party either. I can see why it may be confusing though. The template was under a different and less confusing name when it was created, and I don't know why it was moved without any discussion. Maybe we should start talking about changing it back or maybe splitting the template into two. Given that many of the provincial wings (e.g. BC, Alberta) have disaffiliated from the federal party, this should be repurposed to into a ideological template or a template about the parties that are still affiliated ONLY. --Kevlar (talk • contribs) 04:15, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-01-28T04:15:00.000Z","author":"Kevlar67","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Kevlar67-2011-01-28T04:15:00.000Z-Re-purpose","replies":["c-Newfoundlander&Labradorian-2011-01-29T13:28:00.000Z-Kevlar67-2011-01-28T04:15:00.000Z"],"displayName":"Kevlar"}}-->

I understand that the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Templates/Archive_6#Advertising_colors means that we are not supposed to use party colours in templates like this. The colour Green was removed from the Green parties nav box, and red from those for communist parties. Either colours should be permitted for all or none.--Darryl Kerrigan (talk) 20:13, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2020-05-16T20:13:00.000Z","author":"Darryl Kerrigan","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Darryl_Kerrigan-2020-05-16T20:13:00.000Z-No_advertising_colours","replies":[]}}-->
