UGC Roll Back protests

The UGC Roll Back protests refers to the nationwide students protests against the notification of the UGC Equity Regulations, 2026 during the beginning of the year 2026.[1][2][3] It was multi days massive students protests in India. According to the media reports, the demonstrators during the protests accused the UGC of promoting discriminatory policies in the name of equality.[4] The protesters alleged the policy as "biased and divisive".[5] The students from several universities of the country came on the streets for demonstrating the protests against the new UGC regulation.[2][6] The major slogan of the protests was "UGC Roll Back". Later due to the eruptions of the huge massive students protests across the country, the Supreme Court of India intervened and took decision to stay the implementation of the UGC 2026 Equity Regulations.[7]

Description

The UGC Roll Back protests were peaceful protests. The protests were also demonstrated through walking marches. The protestors in these massive gatherings demanded to roll back the UGC Equity Regulations, 2026. The participates of the protests feel fear from the misuse of the regulations against the students of the general category (Savarna Samaaj) in future.[8]
