Dr. Jack E. Jensen

Dr. Jack E. Jensen is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon and the acting President/CEO of the AOK Medical Center. The AOK Medical Center consists of Athletic Orthopedics and Knee Center; a leading orthopedic and sports medicine institute specializing in foot, ankle, knee, shoulder, hand, spine and pain; AOK Spine and Pain; a state-of-the-art spine surgery and pain management center. Also located on the campus is AOK Emergency Room, a 24-hour free-standing emergency room; Special Surgery of Houston; an out-patient surgery center , AOK Physical Therapy, Houston Medical Imaging and Medical Express, Inc.

Born and raised in Kansas, Dr. Jack Jensen did not always dream of becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon. He was however, a successful collegiate athlete and a sports advocate which led him to his practice specialty, Sports Medicine. At a very early age, Dr. Jensen was recognized for his athletic abilities. In fact, he won the Harry Fortune award; for the best three-sport athlete at Holton High School. As he progressed to college, Dr. Jensen was also recognized as a Varsity Letterman at Washburn University, he was the head of Intramurals, Homecoming King and an active member in Student Council.

Very quickly into Dr. Jensen’s college career, he began to apply his passion for sports and motivation to succeed to a future profession. At this time, his medical career began. He attended the University of Kansas Medical School from 1973 to 1976 where he graduated with honors in both anatomy and surgery. After an internship at The University of Texas, Texas Medical Center, he began his residency in Orthopedic Surgery. During his residency, he was recognized with many honorable awards. In 1980 he received the Vernon P Thompson Award at the Western Orthopedic Association and in 1981, he received the Frank E. Stinchfield Award from the Hip Society of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery.

With a specialty in orthopedics; sports medicine and knee surgery, Dr. Jensen quickly used his expertise in pivotal research correlating nutrition to the impact of orthopedic surgery. He wrote the lead article in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, 64A: 1263-1272 which meticulously defines the impact of nutrition in orthopedic surgery.

Next in Dr. Jensen’s medical career, he conducted one the first computerized comparisons of ACL surgery titled A Clinical Comparison of Specific Intra-Anticular Extra-Articular and Combined Procedures for the Chronic Anterior Cruciate Ligament Insufficient Knee and presented at the International Knee Society, Edinburg, Scotland, April 20th 1983. Dr. Jensen explored the use of a computer to analyze the effectiveness of ACL surgeries. Currently, he performs surgery at Special Surgery of Houston, his out-patient surgery center located at the AOK Medical Center.

Moving forward, Dr. Jensen used his extensive training in Sports Medicine at the University of Oregon to discover one of the first breakthroughs on the use of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). At this time, he wrote one of the first published and influential articles, Effectiveness of Transcutaneous Neural Stimulation in the Treatment of Pain, showing the effectiveness of decreasing pain for the use in Sports Medicine.

This discovery would pave the way to his career breaking accomplishments with organizations and individuals such as the Goodwill Games, the World Championships of Gymnastics, the U.S. Olympic Training Center, and the Olympic Games. In Dr. Jensen’s career as a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon, he has also worked with the Houston Rockets, the Houston Astros, the Houston Oilers, the Houston Texans, Cirque du Soleil, Houston Wranglers Tennis, The US Clay Court Tournament, The Masters Cup and has served as Team Physician for the Missouri Tigers.

As mentioned above, Dr. Jack E. Jensen has worked with many world-class athletes and professional sports teams. It is here, where he completed his next innovative medical accomplishment of using ultrasound exogen bone stimulators to heal injured athletes. Dr. Jensen applied this medical treatment to Dominique Moceanu, the gold medal gymnast for the U.S Olympic Team. She was injured with a stress fracture and under his care, where he used the exogen bone stimulator, her injury was healed and she won the gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics. Dr. Jensen has stated that this is one of his proudest moments as an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine expert.

On July 28th, 1996 during the same Olympic Games, Dr. Jensen witnessed the bomb explosion at the Centennial Olympic Park which injured numerous people. He and his wife Allison Jensen were walking back to their rooms and walked directly through the Centennial Olympic Park. Five minutes after passing through, the bomb went off. Dr. Jensen immediately went back to the site. Upon his return, he found there was an explosion that injured over 100 people and he immediately started to care for the injured.

Dr. Jensen continued his medically inspired career and started Athletic Orthopedics and Knee Center (AOKC) in 1989. Today, AOKC sees thousands of patients per year and has many orthopedic specialists on site. AOKC also has a research foundation, Athletic Orthopedics Research Foundation. The Foundation performs charity surgeries, low cost sports physicals, donates medical/sporting and participates in orthopedic research. Dr. Jensen accomplished his long-term medical dream of establishing a successful Medical Center in 2012, when the AOK Medical Center was born. The AOK Medical Center is located in Houston, TX at 9180 Katy Freeway off I-10 and Campbell Road. The AOK Medical Center consists of AOKC, AOK Physical Therapy, AOK Spine and Pain, AOK Emergency Room, Athletic Orthopedic Research Foundation and Special Surgery of Houston. In 2014, Dr. Jensen will have successfully built a 6 story office building for medical professionals in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Jack Jensen is happily married to his wife, Allison J. Jensen, MS, RD; PHD who both reside in Houston, TX. They are proud parents of two successful children, Justin Michael Jensen, Owner and founder of Cinetics and Kristin Jensen Kaminsky, J.D. In Dr. Jensen’s free-time he enjoys spending time at his ranch Deer Dancer Ranch. Deer Dancer Ranch offers a relaxing location for corporate retreats and family recreational activity. Dr. Jensen’s hobbies include sports, skiing, biking, running, golf and tennis.
