Kathryn Mockler (born 1971) is a Canadian poet, filmmaker, editor, and publisher. She has published six poetry books and multiple short films.

Mockler grew up in London, Ontario. She received her Bachelor's of Arts in Creative Writing and English Literature at Concordia University in 1994.^[1] Afterwards, she completed her Master's of Fine Arts in Screenwriting at the University of British Columbia in 1998.^[2] She then attended the Canadian Film Centre where she completed the Cineplex Entertainment Film Program in 2005 and the Short Dramatic Film Program in 2006. ^[3]

Mockler instructed as a lecturer in many post-secondary institutions across Canada. She lectured at Western University in the Continuing Education department from 2002 to 2004 before switching to lecturing in the Department of English and Writing Studies from 2004 to 2020.^[4] During this time, she also lectured at the University of Windsor in the Creative Writing Department from 2002 to 2003, Fanshawe College General Studies from 2002 to 2005, and the Ontario College of Art and Design University from 2006 to 2009.^[4] Currently, she works as an Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria in the Department of Writing in Screenwriting and has been doing so since 2020.^[4]

Mockler has over 60 poetry publications and over 20 fiction publications in numerous anthologies and magazines. ^[1] Most notably, she has 5 published full length works. Her first poetry book, Onion Man, published in November 2011, is a series of poems that tell a coming-of-age story of a young woman who works a summer job at a corn-canning factory.^[5] This poetry book was a finalist in CBC Literary Awards in 2010 as well as was longlisted for the ReLit Awards in 2012. ^[1] Her next poetry book, entitled The Saddest Place on Earth, was published in 2012 by DC Books.^[6] She published her third poetry book in 2015, entitled The Purpose Pitch. ^[7] She then went on to publish two collaborative poetry books. The first one being Some Theories, co-written with David Poolman. ^[8] This collection of works that revolves around the topic of the end of the world was published in 2017. ^[8] Her second collaborative poetry book, Me Then You Then Me Then, was a collaboration with Gary Barwin and published in 2020. ^[8]

In September 2019, Mockler organized a reading with eight poets during a climate protest.^[9] In order to share this event, Mockler started the online presence of Watch Your Head, an digital publication showcasing works based upon climate change and the issues that stem from it such as colonialized racism, species extinction, wildfires, and more. ^[10] The publication recently released its first physical anthology, Watch Your Head: Writers and Artists Respond to the Climate Crisis, 6 October 2020.^[11]

During her programs at the Canadian Film Centre, Mockler completed two short films for the NBC/Universal Short Dramatic Film Program entitled Spoonfed and Skinheads.^[3] Skinheads has won several awards such as the Special Merit Award from Euroshorts International Festival of Short Film in 2006, the InVision Prize from The Victoria Independent Film and Video Festival and the Silver Remi Award from the Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival both in 2007.^[1] Spoonfed also was nominated for Best Drama at the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival in 2007 and won the Gold Remi Award at the Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival in 2007. ^[1] She has worked on over 10 short films, writing, directing, and producing.^[12] Her films have been screened at over 70 film festivals all around the globe. ^[13]
