Angelo Omar - Writer, Producer, Director, Activist
Angelo Omar (Muhammad) was born Angelo Washington and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey by his father Joseph T. Washington and grandmother Mildred Washington. He later resided with his mother Irene Dasher.
He attended Plainfield High School and furthered his education at Kean College in Union, New Jersey, studying Business Management. He later furthered his education at the School of Film and Video Arts in New York City. He attained the status of Registered Public Purchasing Specialist through his studies at Rutgers University.
His spiritual strength was initiated when he joined the Nation of Islam at the age of 16 which he attributes to keeping him away from a life of crime and drugs.
He opened A-1 Video Production and Photography in 1986. In 1989 he opened Ebony Man Barber Shop and A-1 Party Supply, both in Orange, New Jersey.
A former columnist for “Visions Weekly”. He is also a writer of poetry and songs.
He has produced many memorable videos for clients in New Jersey, New York and now Georgia.
He is the self-published author of the book entitled “I Met An Angel – A Spiritual Interlude”.
In 2005 he completed the production of the movie entitled “The Black Market – It’s All About the Bootleg”. He produced the soundtrack for the movie also entitled “The Black Market”. He has produced a documentary on Breast Cancer Awarenes entitled "The Faith to Fight". He covered the Historical Ebenezer Church Program on November 4, 2008 when Barack Obama was named as the President Elect.
As a journalist he has had the pleasure of interviewing, Rev. Al Sharpton, the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, Rev. Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rev. Joseph Lowery, Rap Artists Ludacris, Yung Joc, Gucci Mane and many others.
He is married to his wife Colette with four children, Tariq, Malcolm, Asia and Omar and resides in Douglasville, Georgia. His studio is located at 4300 Yeager Road in Douglasville, GA for model portfolios, portraits and TV show recording. He covers many social and community events as well as private functions
