Anna Christine Stockel (born 12 June 1960), actively participates in many sports, but is best known for being the first, and still only woman, to win "First to Finish" in the 2000 Singled-handed Transpac sailboat race from San Francisco to Hanalei Bay, Kauai. Anna captured trophies in all:

  • SSS First to Finish - Elapsed Time (an honor she shares with adventurer and record-breaker extriodinaire, Steve Fossett[1])
  • Latitude 38 / Nelson Marine Perpetual Trophy - First Elapsed Time
  • Orcon Corporation Perpetual Trophy - First Elapsed Time
  • Jack London Perpetual Trophy - First to Finish Elapsed Time
  • Grover Nibour Perpetual Trophy and "keeper"- First ULDB Elapsed Time

Early life

Anna Stockel was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but grew up in New City, New York where she lived with her parents and two sisters. She acquired her early interest in sailing from her father, Ivar Howard Stockel who bought a C&C 27, the "Mary C" when she was 12 years old. The "Mary C" is currently owned by her sister, Mary Cousland Stockel, and brother-in-law, Glen Garfein, and is moored in Berkeley, California.

Interestingly, she has owned only one sailboat, a Santa Cruz 50, hull number 27, built by Bill Lee[2] and Santa Cruz Yachts. This was the boat special built for Hal Roth[3] who raced it in two BOC, now called the VELUX 5 OCEANS Race[4], races, in 1986-87[5] and 1990-91[6].

The boat is currently owned by Bill Boyd and is moored in Marina Del Ray.
