The Retro III commercial promoted the Nike Air Jordan Retro III basketball shoe in 1987.

History

It was filmed by Spike Lee who also played Mars Blackmon, and Michael Jordan played himself. During the commercial Mars is trying to see what makes Jordan so good and the only conclusion that Blackmon can come to is that the shoes are making him that good.[1] That was one of the advertising targets, if u want to play like Jordan than the only way you can do that is by having the shoes.[2]

Irony in the commercial

Spike Lee is the New York Knicks biggest fan and Michael Jordan is a Bull, so some people thought it was weird for them to be doing a commercial together because those two teams share one of the biggest rivalries in NBA history.[3]
