Is a museum located in West Virginia That contains and explains the different operating systems of Windows Windows 3.1- Windows 7 First part operating systems in The Computer Museum of Windows Aaron Hough- owner of The Computer Museum of Windows. Windows 3.1-Windows 7 Most people think that Windows 95 is the first operating system created by Bill Gates, they are all wrong!!!!!

The first operating system was Windows 1.0 in 1985 (found in the photo gallery) Windows 1.0 was based on MS-DOS all functions were done by MS-DOS and it was fully assessable at start up or at the MS-DOS prompt and you could use is for commands. Windows 1.0 did not contain the maximazation and miniminazation arrows, it could only display it's windows in a tiled format,(one beside of another) they coulden't be minimised or moved over one another and there was no point and click user interface, navigation was done by keyboard arrows only, but Windows 1.0 did include the Iconise and zoom for easier navigation. Windows 1.0 Was a 16-bit operating system based only on the FAT File system, not compatle with the fucture successor Windows NT or NTFS which is only compatable Windows NT and Windows 2000 (excluding Windows Me) and all future NT based operating systems.

Windows 2.0 would become the second operating system created by Bill Gates in November of 1987, and the first With Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Windows 2.0 supporter arrow point and click arrow Maximavation and minisimation to a two demensional Icon, excluding the defaulted permanant Program Manager icon.

Windows 2.1 Was invented by Bill Gates in May 1988 with an increase in memory storage. It also was compatble with newer porcessors such as Intel 80286 and Intel 80386! Making the boot sector time decrease.

Windows 3.0 Was the first widely produced operating system, and rival the Apple Macintosh released on May 22 1990. This operating system had solid arrows for minimizing and maximizing pages. It also was the first to include the Windows Classic Window Logo, making Windows 3.0 a more graphical operating system, this was partially why people liked it more than previous operating systems. Windows 3.0 was the only operating system able to run in different memory modes, for compatibility reasons, Real mode allowed users to run programs that were only compatable with Windows 2.0 and 2.1x and it was the only way th change the Virtuial memory settings.

Windows 3.1 Was the first computer for real expert publishing! It was released in April, 1992 and was sold until 1994. It allowed 32-bit disk access and had Minesweeper.

Windows 3.11 was released on December 31, 1993 as a nonofficial operating system, as an update to Windows 3.1 (For Free), but any other operating system made after December 31, 1993 would be Windows 3.11, and also the first operating system used as a server.
