Life is Respiration + Duplication.
Arrogance is thinking you are better than life.
Intelligence is a beautiful thing that has created the ability to take the long view and to consider life in the context of the species or even of all life rather than the parochial view of self. Through the development of abstract thought this has given us things like love, art, sport, science, and engineering, but don't be fooled into thinking we are better than nature. The same essentials of life that defined the reasons behind our vaunted institutions from nations to marriage and farming to hunting have not changed in the past twenty thousand years much less the last fifty. What has changed is the growth of our context which allows us to distinguish the characteristics which support the fundamentals of life from discrimination without relevance or importance.
