Senses of Cinema (21). among the list of those for whom you were looking for "expressions of interest" I noted Ford (John), who I am delighted to say I also met and who is quite simply the greatest director of all time. Recommends (delightfully) a sequence of Ford's films to introduce the uninitiated to his art.

  • Lobrutto, Vincent. Becoming Film Literate. p. 58. The truly subversive aspect of Bonnie and Clyde is the audacious film editing of Dede Allen (Slaughterhouse Five, Dog Day Afternoon, Henry and June). Penn and Allen moved away from traditional scene structure to give Bonnie and Clyde the frenetic energy of the inner life of the characters and their living-for-the-moment lifestyle.
  • Prince, Stephen, ed. (2001). Screening Violence 1. Continuum International Publishing Group. p. 11. ISBN 9780485300956. Penn filmed this action with four cameras running at different speeds. Most operated at very high speeds to provide slow-motion footage for the construction of a complexly edited sequence. Penn and his editor Dede Allen assembled a brief but sophisticated montage of the ambush. The editing juxtaposes differential rates of slow motion to extend the outlaws' death agonies and to capture, as Penn puts it, the balletic and spastic qualities of their violent deaths.

Notes on urate levels

Two units commonly used: monosodium urate level in blood (micromole/liter) and serum uric acid level (milligrams/deciliter). Interconversion: 168 g/mole for uric acid. So 0.0168 x um/l = mg/dl .

Indiana University Press. p. 66. ISBN 9780253347992. Auschwitz as a place of memorial does not offer answers; it merely shocks people into asking questions - and especially the subversive questions. Perhaps this is its true role. But it can also (should also) be seen as a place of healing, through dialogue - where people can learn about each others' experience of war and peacetime problems leading to prejudice, stereotype, discrimination, hatred, and civil war. Much of this remains true of the world we live in today. We have to convince ourselves that we are all implicated in Auschwitz, each in our own ways perspectives and histories. Over the last nineteen years, three independent educational centers have in fact been set up in the vicinity of the museum: first (in the 1980s) a German-Polish youth center, then a catholic center, and most recently (in 2000) a Jewish center - the latter an imaginative project, assembled around a restored prewar synagogue building. Collectively, the establishment of these centers means that Auschwitz is not only a site of mourning and meditation, a site of memory, but also a site of researching, learning, and encounter, interreligious or otherwise. The growth of these institutions hints at new strategies emerging for a long-term future.
