Atomic Structure and Spectral Lines is an early twentieth century textbook on atomic physics by Arnold Sommerfeld. The book was referred to as the "Bible of atomic physics".[1] The book was developed from advanced lectures in atomic physics that Sommerfeld gave at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

Background

The book was developed from advanced lectures in atomic physics that Sommerfeld gave at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.[2]

Sommerfeld later wrote the textbook series Lectures on Theoretical Physics based on the introductory courses he gave at the same school.

Content

Reception

The book was referred to as the "Bible of atomic physics".[1] The book received several reviews in English,[3][4][5][6] along with notable reviews in German from Erwin Schrödinger[7] and Werner Heisenberg.[8] The book was used as a comparative benchmark for other physics textbooks as well.[9]
