Lullaby is a 2022 American supernatural horror film directed by John R. Leonetti and written by Alex Greenfield and Ben Powell. The film stars Oona Chaplin, Ramón Rodríguez, Liane Balaban, and Moni Moshonov. It follows a young mother who, after discovering an ancient Hebrew lullaby, inadvertently summons the mythological demon Lilith, who targets newborns.
The film was released in the United States on December 16, 2022, by Vertical Entertainment. It received mostly negative reviews from critics and grossed over $210,000 at the box office.
Plot
Rachel and her husband John are adjusting to life as new parents to their infant son, Eli. Overwhelmed by the challenges of early motherhood, Rachel feels isolated and anxious. When she receives a box of belongings from her estranged sister Vivian, she discovers an old Hebrew book containing a mysterious lullaby. Desperate to calm Eli, she sings the lullaby aloud—an act that instantly soothes the baby but unknowingly awakens a demonic force tied to the song.
Soon, supernatural disturbances begin to plague their home: mirrors crack on their own, eerie figures appear in reflections, and a sense of dread intensifies. The death of their pet cockatoo further escalates the tension. Rachel consults Vivian, who is institutionalized after losing her own child years earlier. Vivian warns that the lullaby is part of a ritual to summon **Lilith**, a figure from Jewish folklore known for stealing children.
The ritual involves three steps: singing the lullaby, the death of an unclean creature, and drawing the child’s blood. Once complete, Lilith replaces the child with a golem—a soulless doppelgänger. Rachel and John seek help from Rabbi Cohen, who provides them with instructions for a protective ritual. However, Vivian, desperate to recover her son Zachary, breaks into the home and completes the ritual, allowing Lilith to abduct Eli.
Determined to save her child, Rachel enters the mirror realm—Lilith’s domain—where she navigates a nightmarish labyrinth of cribs and lost souls. Vivian sacrifices herself during a confrontation with Lilith, enabling Rachel to escape with a baby she believes is Eli.
Back in the real world, John completes the ritual, sealing the mirror portal. But Rachel soon realizes that the baby she rescued is Zachary, not Eli. In a chilling twist, Lilith—now inhabiting Vivian’s body—is seen cradling Eli in the shadowy mirror world, singing the lullaby once again suggesting to the viewers it's not over.
