The James Street Vaults is a small and lively public house located within the University of Plymouth campus. The James Street Vaults is also known as the JSV or The Vaults.
History
The James Street Vaults was used during world war two as a mortuary. The bodies of the victims of the German bombing raids were taken and stored in the basement of the building.
Location
The James Street Vaults is positioned within the University of Plymouth on the corner between James Street, Kirkby Place and Portland Square Lane. Although situated within the university campus, the University of Plymouth has no affiliation with the pub however there have been numerous rumours of attempts to purchase the property. The JSV is a five minute walk from Plymouth train station and about ten minutes away from the city centre.
