Introduction
Hello and welcome to my page.
I am in the Translating Wikipedia class for the Winter Semester 2021/22.
My favourite song at the moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoODq7Ol1so
working with:
Articles to translate
- Thomas Savage (America author) https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Savage (main introductory paragraph and 'The Pass' section under 'Werken') wtt: 620
English version: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Savage_%28novelist%29
- Thüringen https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Th%C3%BCringen (focus on 'Kultur' section: introductory paragraph and 'Theatre') wtt: 330
English version: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thuringia
- Intercontinental Wien https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercontinental_Wien ('Standort' section and the paragraph that begins 'Im Jahr 2012' under 'Gegenwart') wtt: 261
English version: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InterContinental_Vienna
- Good Bye, Lenin! https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Bye,_Lenin!#Entstehung (majority of article needs translating, definitely over 1000 wtt, could focus on 'Entstehung', 'Rezeption', 'Interpretation')
English version: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Bye,_Lenin!
- Kirchzarten https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirchzarten (whole article)
Christmas Break Work
- Intercontinental Wien (en: InterContinental Vienna) - I translated part of the 'Standort' section for the English page, as I think this would be useful, additional information for tourists. I leaved out one sentence however, which I didn't see an important information for an English reader.
- Draußen vor der Tür (en: The Man Outside) - I chose to translate a small portion of this article, as I was recently studying this play in another class and when I went to the English wikipedia page to read up on the play, I found that there was only a plot summary available and no extra information. Therefore, I thought that it would be important to give some historical background to the play, which is vital to know when reading it. There is, however, a lot more translation work that can be done on this article.
- Böller-Verkaufsverbot in Deutschland (en: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireworks#Germany) - The theme Böller-Verkaufsverbot in Deutschland was in the 'Nachrichten' section of the German wikipedia homepage, discussing the ban on fireworks at New Year's Eve during the pandemic. Although this was briefly mentioned in the English version of the 'Fireworks' page, I added some extra detail on the reasoning behind this ban.
