Tyrväntö is a former municipality of Häme Province, Finland. The main part belongs today to Hattula, Tavastia Proper, and the northern area is a part of Valkeakoski, Pirkanmaa.
Geography
Tyrväntö was a part of Häme province and surrounded by Hattula, Hauho, Pälkäne and Sääksmäki (from 1967: Valkeakoski). Kalvola was connected to Tyrväntö by a single point. Tyrväntö comprised the north east side of lake Vanajavesi basin and in the north the municipality reached to Mallasvesi and Tykölänjärvi lakes. The main natural formations are the Tyrväntö peninsula, bays Lusinlahti, Uskilanlahti, Vanajansuulahti and Tokeensuunlahti, and the largest island of Vanajavesi, Retulansaari.[2]
Nature
The landscape is rolling, consisting many moraine ridges in particular in the east side. The highest point, 136.3 metres high Saukonvuori, is at the north end of the area. The Tyrväntö peninsula is mainly open, cultivated area with some wetlands. Shores are rocky in many places. The vegetation of the islands is lush and there grow mainly deciduous trees; coniferous and mixed forests are common in the other parts of Tyrväntö.[2]
