RarStek

RarStek is an organisation created by jaaacc and Kiiirn in 2016 that is based in the United Kingdom. The group was originally created as a gaming team however the group has more recently become an organisation of friends rather than its original ambition. The group currently consists of 12 members.

History

Etymology

The name originated in a Rocket League match and is a mispronounced combination of the words "Raw" and "Steak." There is frequent confusion amongst the members themselves about the choice of the adjective being "Raw" as opposed to "Rare" however founders jaaacc and Kiiirn both state that the correct adjective is "Raw."

Early History (2016-2017)

Upon creation, the intent of the organisation was to unite professional Rocket League duo Jackachu90 and Nathaniels24 into a more robust, business-oriented system, allowing the pair to connect with more players in the future for profitable Rocket League trading deals, a particular interest of Jackachu90. The trading plans succeeded with both members finding good deals within the community however as time went on, co-founder Nathaniels24 lost interest in trading and both players moved on to pursue business on another game.

The pair began playing Minecraft factions, improving their business relationship and laying further groundwork for the future infrastructure of the organisation. Long-time friend of both players, SpiderPig647, also joined around this time despite a rivalry between him and Nathaniels24 emerging in the past. After several months of factions and the unprecedented destruction of SpiderPig647's computer, all three players moved onto Xbox where they decided to begin playing popular 2016 multiplayer FPS game, Overwatch. However the relationship between Nathaniels24 and SpiderPig647 deteriorated quickly after this point, leaving SpiderPig647 out of the group for while. The two founding members continued playing Overwatch, however neither of them proved to show any significant talent at the game.

Later on, in the summer of 2017, the popular battle royale game Fortnite began emerging in the mainstream scene of multiplayer gaming and slowly all three members re-connected to play the increasingly popular game. Similar to Overwatch, none of the players displayed much knowledge and skill for the game however Jackachu90 made a surprise encounter with BredSwag123 whilst during a conversation about Fortnite and the following day, the two decided to play the game along with BredSwag123's friend Haydle and both would later join the organisation. Jackachu90 and Nathaniels24 also frequently played Minecraft during this period.

Re-introduction of Overwatch and new members (2018-2019)

Due to the expansion of the group, founders Jackachu90 and Nathaniels24 declared themselves leaders however this role proved to be mostly insignificant. Despite Fortnite remaining as a central focus of the group, Overwatch slowly re-emerged into prominence amongst the players and after a while there was a strong balance of focus between the games. A plan to split the group into two departments headed by two different members was attempted however the partition had little impact other than slight internal conflict over who should head each department. Bardimov1711 also joined the group around this time and quickly became one of the most active Overwatch players in the group.

As time went on, member Haydle faded out of relevance to the group and was officially declared a past member in 2019 and virtually no contact has been made with him since. It was also around this time that Overwatch became the primary activity within the group rather than a main focus, as the interests of each member expanded outside of gaming. On November 1st 2019 when the group finally decided to make a Discord server after using other, more inconvenient means of communication for a long time. Jackachu90 and Nathaniels24 planned to utilise the new server as a way of expanding the roster of the group and they began basing the structure of the server around that idea, however this proved to be useless and this intent has still not been fulfilled to its original degree to this day. All contemporary members except Bardimov1711 joined the server the day it was created.

Throughout most of the second half of 2019, the group spent much of their time talking with other people who were considered unofficial members at the time and the overall significance of the group was not important.

Migration to PC, COVID-19 and Development (2020-present)

In December 2019, Jackachu90 built a new computer with the intent of returning to Minecraft and migrating the group over to PC gaming in the process. Members Jackachu90, Nathaniels24 and BredSwag123 were the main undertakers of the migration since other members either didn't have a computer or already frequently used one. In January 2020, PigeonΔ and RealRay123 officially joined the group by joining the Discord server. After this, leader Jackachu90 began seeing RarStek more as an organisation of friends rather than a gaming group and throughout the year, Jackachu90 changed the structure of the group to suit his new view. The idea of leaders was removed and Jackachu90 instead declared himself de facto manager of the group, since he was and had been the most active member. The idea of a member hierarchy was also removed and Jackachu90 implemented a ranking system based on server contribution which is purely cosmetic. Bardimov1711 also joined the server in March.

During the first quarter of 2020, several of the most active members rebranded themselves to represent the changes in the style and attitudes of RarStek. Jackachu90 changed his name to jaaacc, Nathaniels24 changed his name to Kiiirn, BredSwag123 changed his name to Napkink and epsilongamer420 changed his name to epsilo.n. Shortly after, SpiderPig647 officially changed to Ham. jaaacc, Kiiirn and Napkink began frequently playing on the same Minecraft factions server that the founders originally played on

During February 2020, Kiiirn suddenly disappeared from the group with no sign of contact, leaving several active members confused. Some contact was received during March and April however most of the group were not interested in contact with him. Member jaaacc has since announced his regret for his ignorance towards Kiiirn during this period. The absence of Kiiirn lasted until May 2020.

Throughout 2020, four more members joined at various points. During the first COVID-19 lockdown in the UK, Ollie Juice and previous unofficial member Maisym joined RarStek. It was also during the first lockdown that RarStek started playing Jackbox Party Packs as a way of playing with those who were not able to play on PC. It was because of this that RealRay123 became a more prominent figure within the group and most people on the server became more active overall.

Despite the changes, several members of RarStek including jaaacc, Kiiirn, Napkink and epsilo.n stuck to its roots of gaming, with a particular emphasis on tactical shooter Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.

During the summer of 2020, several members became less active once again and it was during this time that the plan for Wii Sports RarSort emerged.

After the first lockdown ended, Wellard joined the group, originally as a joke however he has since proven to be a valuable member.

In December of 2020, the most recent member to join, Eebruhhim was added to the group due to concerns of another upcoming lockdown. Eebruhhim and jaaacc wanted a way of keeping contact during the period of isolation however Eebruhhim has become one of RarStek's most active members since his joining. Members jaaacc, Kiiirn, Napkink and RealRay123 all placed high on the Hypixel Bedwars leaderboards on various days throughout December, including a top 10 position for jaaacc.

The RarStek Parties

The RarStek Parties are events hosted and attended by the members of the group for a purpose related to the group or its members. The only members to have attended every RarStek event are jaaacc, Napkink and epsilo.n.

RarStek Party I (November 2018)

The first RarStek party was hosted at the residence of Nathaniels24 and consisted of members Jackachu90, Nathaniels24, SpiderPig647, BredSwag123, Haydle, epsilongamer420 and Bardimov1711. The intent of the meetup was to celebrate the co-founder's birthday as well as play a game of popular board game Monopoly however this plan quickly crumbled due to hyperactivity from SpiderPig647, Haydle and epsilongamer420.

After the short attempt at playing Monopoly, the group decided to move on to play a game of Scrabble however this also failed rather quickly due to similar reasons.

Finally the group settled on watching recently released Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Avengers: Infinity War however it is argued that the watching experience was ruined due to violence amongst the hyperactive members.

RarStek Party II (October 2019)

The second RarStek party was hosted at the residence of Jackachu90 however the list of attendees is not fully confirmed. Confirmed attendees include Jackachu90, BredSwag123, SpiderPig647 and epsilongamer420. This event is noted for its severe lack of organisation, particularly from epsilo.n who forgot to bring his copy of Wii Sports Resort and instead brought Mario Sports Mix, a game which was not enjoyed by the attendees.

RarStek Party III (February 2020)

The third RarStek party was hosted at the residence of Jackachu90 and consisted of members Jackachu90, Nathaniels24, BredSwag123, epsilongamer420, pigeonΔ and RealRay123. Similar to RarStek Party II, the group intended to spend the day playing a range of Wii games such as Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort however due to the extended duration of this event, the group eventually found themselves to be bored and began watching Christopher Nolan's 2008 movie The Dark Knight however the viewing was never finished.

Wii Sports RarSort (July 30th 2020)

The fourth RarStek party didn't follow the typical numeric pattern but was instead named Wii Sports RarSort by epsilo.n as a play on Wii Sports Resort. The intention of the event was to allow six of the members to meet up since none of them had seen each other since the lockdown began on March 26 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The meetup was carefully planned by jaaacc and epsilo.n, not only for the events that were to take place on the day but also to abide by COVID-19 lockdown and meetup restrictions and protocols. The meetup was hosted in a garden near the residence of epsilo.n and consisted of members jaaacc, Ham, Napkink, epsilo.n, pigeonΔ and Ollie Juice. Events that took place tailored to the aforementioned restrictions, including darts, an adapted version of tag as well as failed attempts at Poker and a water-fight. It appeared that all attending members enjoyed the events, however event planners jaaacc and epsilo.n have retrospectively agreed that the event did not satisfy the original expectation.

RarStek Party V (October 31st 2020)

The fifth and most recent RarStek event took place at a bowling centre and a local dessert restaurant to serve as another meetup for several members as it was around this time that COVID-19 restrictions were being eased. Once again, only six members, jaaacc, Kiiirn, Napkink, epsilo.n, RealRay123 and new member Wellard attended the event. After a session of bowling, the members spent a while in the arcade area of the centre with the intent of collecting as many tickets as possible for future use and this plan was fulfilled with one significant moment including epsilo.n winning 500 tickets from a single game, causing him to wait around 10 minutes for all tickets to be printed. After several hours in the bowling centre, the six members visited a nearby dessert restaurant, where the group suffered an internal financial crisis despite every member being distinctly above average on the intellectual spectrum. This event is regarded by the attendees as the most successful and enjoyable RarStek event to date.
