Jonathan "Jono" Mooney (born 29th July 1990)"legend in his own right", is an Irish student/footballer. Thus far has spent most of his playing days with local side Swords Rovers FC. He is usually employed in the right back position, although he has also played as a right-sided midfielder. Moved to the Dublin based side from Belfast in 98'. Made his debut that season and cemented his place in the side. Known for his right peg "the cannon" became the dead ball specialist at Balheary Park. Honours include 2nd place in Brenfer Premier Division 2006 along with several Man of the Match awards. Mooney was placed 17th in the All Ireland Youth Sports Personality Awards in 2007.

Early Career

Jonathan, a sports fanatic, made the academics side of school his priority this could have been influenced by his parents. At Colaiste Choilm CBS Swords he subsequently achieved a high level of grades, Art was a hobby and favoured subject which was to see him designed posters and Christmas cards in aid of the school and community. Never one to hesitate when it comes to charitable efforts Jonathan even in his youth was seen by members of the public at supermarkets and door-to-door collections.

Present

Controversy surrounded "Jono's" decision to walk away from Rovers in 2008 (were he would shortly have earned a lucrative testimonial game for 10 years service), when just days later he was thought to have been in talks with rival side Sporting Fingal FC over a contract. When in fact he was just invited to trials at the rival outfits training ground and was not offered a contract, Jonathan Mooney remains a Free Agent. Because of financial commitments Jonathan now works in a local supermarket as a checkout operator with ambitions to go on to college education in the near future. A tour of europe is on the cards in 2010 to resurrect his football career. At 19 years old there is still a lot to be written.
