Force lightning is a Force attack primarily used by the Sith in the fictional Star Wars universe.[1][original research?] The first use portrayed in the series was by Emperor Palpatine in Return of the Jedi.[2]

Overview

Force energy, taking the form of lightning bolts, exits the user's body through the fingertips. Force lightning can be directed using one or both hands. The greater the user's aptitude in the Force, the more powerful the lightning. Very powerful blasts of lightning can fork in multiple directions, allowing for the possibility of striking numerous targets at once.

Appearances

Force lightning is used in Attack of the Clones by Count Dooku, Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi by Palpatine. It also appears in the Star Wars Roleplaying Game,[3] and several Star Wars-based video games including the soon-to-be-released The Force Unleashed.[4]
