Monte Burke is an American journalist and author. Biography

Burke was born in New Hampshire and grew up in Vermont, North Carolina and Alabama. He studied religion at Middlebury College.

Burke is the author of five books and currently a contributing editor at Forbes magazine, where he worked for 14 years, as a reporter, staff writer and editor. He has also written for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Garden & Gun, where he is also a contributing editor.

Books

In 2001, Burke co-edited Leaper: The Wonderful World of Atlantic Salmon Fishing (Lyons Press) with his uncle, the novelist, Charles_Gaines.

In 2005, Burke published Sowbelly: The Obsessive Quest for the World Record Largemouth Bass (Dutton) which was chosen for Barnes & Noble’s “Discover Great New Writers” program and was selected by Sports Illustrated as one of its “Year’s Best Books.”

In 2012, Burke published 4th And Goal: One Man’s Quest to Recapture His Dream (Grand Central Publishing), the story of Joe Moglia, the former CEO of TD Ameritrade who fulfilled his quest to become a college football coach. The book won an Axiom Award for biography.

In 2015, Burke published Saban: The Making of a Coach (Simon & Schuster), a biography of the University of Alabama football coach, Nick Saban, which made the New York Times hardcover nonfiction bestseller list.

In 2020, Burke published Lords of the Fly: Madness, Obsession and the Hunt for the World-Record Tarpon (Pegasus).
